Contratto

Contratto was one of the first Italian houses to introduce the Méthode Classique, the traditional bottle fermentation used in Champagne, long before this technique became widespread in Italy.

The roots of Contratto date back to 1867, when the Contratto family founded a winery and a sparkling wine manufactory in Canelli, Piedmont. Early on, the company specialized in producing Asti Spumante, Champagne-style sparkling wines, and aromatized wines, which gained recognition both in Italy and internationally. Contratto was one of the first Italian houses to introduce the Méthode Classique, the traditional bottle fermentation used in Champagne, long before this technique became widespread in Italy.
In the first half of the 20th century, Contratto established itself as a synonym for luxurious sparkling wines and high-quality aperitifs. The company combined innovative production methods with creative recipes for liqueurs and aromatized wines. In particular, the vermouth line and aromatized wines such as Contratto Vermouth Bianco and Rosso gained international renown over the decades and helped make Italian aperitif culture known worldwide.
Today, Contratto stands for tradition, craftsmanship, and quality. The company is still based in Canelli and places great emphasis on combining historical methods with modern quality standards. Contratto produces a wide range of products, including classic sparkling wines, vermouth, liqueurs, and exclusive vintage products, which continue to be sought after in bars, restaurants, and by connoisseurs worldwide. With a clear focus on handcrafted production, sustainable viticulture, and preserving traditional recipes, Contratto remains an important representative of Italian wine and spirits culture.
