Domenis 1898 Distillery is a long-established family business based in Cividale del Friuli, in the heart of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region in Italy. The distillery was founded in 1898 by Pietro Domenis, who began distilling various raw materials, including white and black pomace as well as fruits, using an ancient and secret production method. The resulting distillate was already referred to as “storica” at the time due to its superior and unique aromatic qualities, clearly distinguishing it from other spirits of the era.
Over the years, the company has been passed down from generation to generation. The second generation, led by Emilio Domenis, introduced significant improvements in distillation techniques. Under his guidance, the distillery was equipped with modern copper stills, and the low-pressure steam distillation method was introduced, further enhancing the quality of the grappa.
In the following decades, Domenis Distillery expanded beyond regional borders and established itself as a leading producer of high-quality grappa. A milestone was the launch of the “Storica” brand in 1986, which, thanks to its perfect balance of alcohol content and aromatic composition, was immediately well received, positioning Domenis as a recognized leader in the premium spirits sector.
In 1999, the company responded to the growing demand for sustainable products by launching an organic line. Domenis began sourcing certified organic pomace from trusted suppliers and expanded its range to include kosher products, produced according to traditional Jewish practices.
In 2016, the company was repositioned under the name DOMENIS1898 srl, combining centuries-old tradition with a modern image. New products such as the “Cividât” gin, various liqueurs, and the “Trittico” line, consisting of eleven award-winning mixology products, were introduced to appeal to younger audiences and further strengthen the brand.
In 2025, Domenis 1898 Distillery was acquired by Distilleria Nardini, the oldest distillery in Italy. This strategic decision aims to preserve the identity and tradition of both companies while strengthening their presence in the premium spirits market.
Today, Domenis 1898 Distillery represents a harmonious combination of tradition and innovation. With a broad portfolio of high-quality products, including grappa, gin, and liqueurs, the company continues to set benchmarks in the Italian spirits industry and enjoys high recognition both nationally and internationally.
