Lillet

Brothers Paul and Raymond Lillet developed an aromatized wine aperitif by combining the region’s rich white wines with carefully selected fruit liqueurs, citrus peels, and herbs.

The history of Lillet begins in 1872 in Podensac, a small town in the French wine region of Bordeaux. Brothers Paul and Raymond Lillet developed an aromatized wine aperitif by combining the region’s rich white wines with carefully selected fruit liqueurs, citrus peels, and herbs. Their goal was to create a refreshing, aromatic drink that would be perfect as an aperitif while reflecting the elegance and character of Bordeaux wines. Initially, Lillet was consumed mainly locally but quickly gained popularity throughout France.
Throughout the 20th century, Lillet attracted international attention, particularly due to the growing cocktail culture and the increasing popularity of French aperitifs. Lillet Blanc, the white variant, became especially well-known, while later Lillet Rouge (made with red Bordeaux wines) and Lillet Rosé expanded the product range. The brand established itself as a synonym for elegant, light aperitif enjoyment, suitable to be served neat, over ice, or in cocktails.
Today, Lillet is part of the international Pernod Ricard group, which distributes the brand worldwide and strengthens its international reputation. Lillet continues to be produced according to the traditional recipe, using wines from the Bordeaux region and carefully adding aromatic fruit liqueurs. The brand is regarded as a symbol of French aperitif culture, combining tradition with modern enjoyment, and is highly appreciated by both classic cocktail enthusiasts and contemporary mixologists.
