Martini

In 1863, Alessandro Martini, Luigi Rossi, and Teofilo Sola founded the Martini & Rossi company in Turin.

The Martini brand is one of the most well-known names in the world of spirits, particularly in the vermouth segment. The history of Martini begins in the mid-19th century in Italy. In 1863, Alessandro Martini, Luigi Rossi, and Teofilo Sola founded the Martini & Rossi company in Turin. Rossi was a chemist who developed a special herb and spice recipe for aromatized wine, while Martini contributed his business expertise. Together, they created the first vermouth, marketed under the Martini name. The product quickly gained local popularity and became an integral part of Italian aperitif culture.
Throughout the 20th century, Martini expanded beyond Italy’s borders. The brand became internationally renowned, not least due to its presence in classic cocktails such as the Martini Cocktail, the Negroni, or the Americano. The product range steadily grew: in addition to the classic Martini Bianco and Martini Rosso, Martini Extra Dry, various fruit-flavored editions, and limited special releases were introduced. Through targeted marketing strategies and its association with lifestyle and elegance, Martini established itself as a symbol of Italian culinary culture worldwide.
Today, Martini is a global company within the Martini & Rossi group, which is part of Bacardi Limited. The brand distributes its products in over 140 countries and remains a leader in the aromatized wine segment. Beyond its classic use as an aperitif, Martini is increasingly used in creative cocktails. Despite modern developments, the secret of the herb and spice blend, which gives the vermouth its distinctive character, remains a key element of its success. Martini continues to combine tradition, Italian lifestyle, and international cocktail expertise.
