Château Musar 2018 from the Hochar family is an iconic red wine from Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, offering an authentic reflection of the region’s long-standing winemaking tradition and distinctive terroir. Founded in 1930 by Gaston Hochar, Château Musar has been crafted for generations following natural, artisanal principles, and is widely regarded as one of the Middle East’s most celebrated wines. The vineyards lie on gravelly, limestone-rich soils at around 1,000 metres above sea level, encouraging low yields, excellent concentration, and the wine’s signature depth and expressive character.
The blend is built around three classic red varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, and Carignan, each vinified separately before being assembled into the final cuvée. In the glass, the 2018 vintage shows a deep garnet colour, hinting at both ripeness and intensity. The bouquet is complex and layered, with aromas of dried cherries, ripe red fruit, plum, and cranberry, complemented by balsamic, spicy, and gently smoky nuances, including hints of tobacco, leather, and fine spice.
On the palate, Château Musar 2018 is full-bodied and concentrated, supported by vibrant acidity, fine well-integrated tannins, and an impressive structure. The ripe fruit core is matched by elegant spice, with additional earthy and balsamic touches that carry through to a long, expressive finish.
While already approachable, this vintage also offers excellent ageing potential thanks to its balance and complexity. Château Musar 2018 is a wine of true personality—shaped by Mediterranean sunshine, high-altitude vineyards, and a remarkable tradition of craftsmanship.
