The Les Vieilles Vignes Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2021 from Domaine de Villeneuve is a characterful red wine from the southern Rhône Valley, produced from old vines with an average age of around 60 years. The vineyards are located in the northern part of the appellation on diverse soils of limestone, clay, and the typical galets roulés, which help promote optimal grape ripening.
The blend is mainly based on Grenache, complemented by Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cinsault, and small amounts of white varieties such as Clairette. This composition is typical for the appellation and allows for complex wines where fruit, structure, and spice are well balanced. The old vines contribute to greater concentration and depth.
Harvesting is done by hand with careful selection. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with extended maceration, followed by aging for around 18 months in concrete tanks, preserving the wine’s natural balance and purity.
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby red color. The nose reveals aromas of ripe red and dark fruits, combined with spicy and herbal notes. On the palate, it is powerful yet elegant, with silky tannins, a warm structure, and a long, mineral-driven finish.
