The Riesling Zeltinger Deutschherrenberg Auslese Edition 18 – 2005 from Markus Molitor is an exceptional Mosel Riesling that showcases the longevity and complexity of mature Auslese wines. The Zeltinger Deutschherrenberg vineyard, located north of Bernkastel, is one of the classic steep sites of the Middle Mosel, characterized by grey and blue Devonian slate soils that impart distinctive minerality, freshness and fine structure.
The 2005 vintage is considered outstanding along the Mosel – a long, warm summer followed by perfect autumn weather produced highly ripe, balanced fruit with ideal acidity and natural sweetness. Markus Molitor hand-selected the grapes in multiple passes to ensure only perfectly mature berries were used.
The designation Edition 18 refers to a limited selection of barrels chosen for their exceptional character, balance and ageing potential. In the glass, the wine shows a deep golden hue. The bouquet is layered and mature, offering dried apricot, candied lemon peel, honey, herbs and nutty nuances. On the palate, it is rich, creamy and finely textured, with perfectly integrated sweetness and lively acidity. A profound, elegant and remarkably fresh Riesling that stands as a testament to time.
