The Mondevinum Bos Taurus Lagrein Riserva DOC 2023 from Niklaserhof is a deep, powerful red wine that clearly reflects its South Tyrolean origin. The grapes come from the Prutznai site at around 300 m altitude, where clay-gravel and loess soils provide ideal conditions for Lagrein. Hand harvesting and 17 days of maceration in open stainless-steel tanks result in remarkable aromatic depth. Malolactic fermentation takes place in large oak casks, followed by up to 18 months of ageing in barriques, adding structure and complexity. The Riserva designation signifies an extended and particularly careful maturation process, giving Lagrein greater concentration, elegance, and depth. On the nose, the Bos Taurus reveals dark, ripe fruit such as blueberries, accompanied by floral hints and subtle notes of cocoa, tobacco, and spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied, dense, and velvety, with pronounced yet harmonious tannins. A characterful and authentic Lagrein, distinguished by its intensity, depth, and impressive longevity.
