The Blauburgunder “vom Roten Kalk” 2023 from
Abraham is an Alto Adige Pinot Noir built uncompromisingly around origin, tension and structure. Abraham is among the producers who do not define Pinot Noir through sweet fruit or overt oak influence, but through precision, texture and a clear, terroir-driven line. The name
“Roter Kalk” is not only a site reference, but also a stylistic cue: the wine feels mineral, focused and marked by a distinct inner tension, setting it apart from softer, more fruit-forward Pinot interpretations.
The
2023 vintage brings a very clear, juicy fruit profile without smoothing out the wine’s structure. The Pinot remains slender and linear, yet it also shows substance and depth. The balance between freshness and ripeness creates a Pinot Noir that is approachable early on, while still offering enough grip and length to gain complexity over the coming years.
In the glass, it shows a bright ruby colour with a transparent core. On the nose, it comes across precise and cool-toned, with aromas of
red cherry, raspberry and cranberry, supported by fine floral hints, a touch of herbal spice and a subtle earthy note reminiscent of stone, forest floor and limestone minerality. On the palate, it is
dry, taut and very clean, with fine-grained tannins and lively acidity that give the wine drive and elegance. The fruit remains clear and never overripe, while the structure is shaped more by tension than by volume. The finish is long, precise and subtly salty-mineral, with a refined spicy echo.
