The Gewürztraminer DOC Vigna Kastelaz 2023 from Elena Walch is one of South Tyrol’s iconic white wines and an international benchmark for this grape variety. The grapes come from the renowned Vigna Kastelaz, a single-vineyard site located above Tramin on an exceptionally steep south-facing slope with an incline of up to 63%. This exclusive vineyard is among the most prestigious in South Tyrol and gives the wine remarkable aromatic depth, elegance, and mineral precision. Gewürztraminer has its historic home in Tramin and thrives here under ideal conditions: intense sunlight, cool evening breezes, and limestone- and porphyry-rich soils create wines of complexity and refined structure. Vigna Kastelaz is Elena Walch’s flagship vineyard and has received numerous accolades, including Tre Bicchieri for the 2023 vintage.
In the glass, it shows an intense golden-yellow colour. The nose reveals complex aromas of rose petals, lychee, exotic fruits, and delicate acacia honey. On the palate, it is dense, elegant, and layered, with harmoniously spicy freshness, fine minerality, and a long, vibrant finish.
