The Merlot DOC Garda Faial 2023 by La Prendina is a representative expression of the Garda DOC designation, known for characterful wines from the area around Lake Garda. This wine is made from 100% Merlot, a grape variety valued for its soft, approachable fruit and velvety tannin structure. The grapes are grown on calcareous-clay moraine soils south of Lake Garda, in a sunny, well-ventilated setting that promotes even ripening and a clear, precise fruit profile. A portion of the grapes is gently dried before fermentation to develop additional aromatic nuances and give the wine extra depth, followed by 12–14 days of skin contact and extended ageing in barriques—a process that shapes Faial’s structured yet elegant character.
In the glass, Faial shows an intense ruby-red colour and offers an inviting nose of ripe dark berries, subtle spice notes and hints of eucalyptus, bay leaf and cinnamon, adding depth and complexity. On the palate, it impresses with juicy fruit, smooth tannins and a lively structure shaped by the Merlot grape, giving the wine an appealing presence and a harmonious, lingering finish.
