Château Smith Haut Lafitte is one of the most prestigious estates in Bordeaux, located in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation. The estate’s history dates back to the 14th century, when vines were already cultivated on this land. Since 1990, it has been owned by Daniel and Florence Cathiard, who have passionately invested in both the vineyards and the cellars.
Covering around 78 hectares, the estate is planted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. For the white wines, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Sauvignon Gris are cultivated. The deep gravel soils of the terroir provide the wines with structure, elegance and remarkable ageing potential.
Smith Haut Lafitte combines traditional vineyard practices with state-of-the-art technology and sustainable methods. The result is powerful, complex yet refined wines that regularly receive top ratings from international critics. Today, Château Smith Haut Lafitte stands as a benchmark among the Grand Cru Classé estates of Graves and Pessac-Léognan.
