Arunda sparkling wine cellar
The Arunda sparkling wine cellar, located in the picturesque village of Mölten in South Tyrol, is the highest sparkling wine cellar in Europe at 1,200 meters above sea level. Founded in 1979 by Josef Reiterer, a pioneer in sparkling wine production in the region, the winery is characterized by traditional bottle fermentation, a method that gives Arunda sparkling wines their fine and complex perlage.
Arunda produces a range of sparkling wine varieties made primarily from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc. These grape varieties grow excellently on the cool, sunny slopes of South Tyrol, which gives the sparkling wines a characteristic freshness and aromatic depth. The careful cultivation and manual maintenance of the vineyards, together with the climatic advantage of the altitude, make it possible to harvest grapes of exceptional quality.
The unique microclimate, with warm days and cool nights, not only promotes the aromatic development of the grapes, but also helps to preserve their natural acidity. This balance is crucial for the production of premium sparkling wine, which expresses both the elegance and vibrancy of the terroir. The sandy and loamy soil also provides an ideal basis for the vines, as it stores both water and heat well and thus contributes to the quality of the grapes. The Arunda sparkling wine cellar remains a family business that combines tradition and innovation to create sparkling wines that are appreciated both locally and internationally for their quality and unique character.
