The Abraham Estate is located in St. Michael in Eppan on the South Tyrolean Wine Road and is run by Martin and Marlies Abraham. The family estate cultivates around 5 to 7 hectares of vineyards and is considered one of the smaller quality-focused wine estates in South Tyrol. The Abraham family has tended its vineyards for several generations, but the estate has been vinifying its own grapes only since 2011. The aim is to produce site-driven wines that clearly reflect the character of the vineyards around Eppan.
The vineyards are located in and around Eppan on soils with very diverse geological origins. Alongside volcanic porphyry soils, there are also calcareous soils and gravelly alluvial deposits derived from dolomite rock. This diversity of soils has a strong influence on the style and structure of the wines and contributes to a distinctive mineral profile. Vineyard work is carried out with great care, as grape quality forms the basis for the subsequent vinification. In the cellar, the estate relies in part on spontaneous fermentation, extended lees ageing and maturation in wooden barrels to preserve the natural character of the wines.
One of the most important grape varieties of the estate is Pinot Noir (Blauburgunder). In the vineyards around Eppan, this variety produces structured red wines with precise fruit and refined tannins. Blauburgunder therefore represents one of the key grape varieties in the Abraham Estate portfolio. Alongside the red wines, Chardonnay and Sauvignon also play an important role. These two international varieties have long been established in South Tyrol and produce aromatic and structured white wines in the vineyards of Eppan.
A special part of the range is the Upupa wines. The name refers to the hoopoe (Upupa epops), a bird frequently found in naturally cultivated vineyards. Within this line, several wines are produced, including Upupa White, Upupa Orange, and Upupa Red. Upupa White, for example, is a field blend of varieties such as Sauvignon, Pinot Blanc, and Chardonnay, fermented spontaneously and matured in wooden barrels.
With its clear focus on site-driven wines, classic grape varieties and precise cellar work, the Abraham Estate has established itself as an independent producer within the wine landscape of Eppan. In particular Blauburgunder, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, as well as the distinctive Upupa wines, form the core of the range and reflect the diversity of the vineyards around Eppan.
