The Riesling Kalkofen 2023 from Weingut Bassermann-Jordan presents itself in a clear, radiant pale yellow. On the nose, it reveals aromas of ripe peach and apricot, complemented by a subtle smoky note – a sign of elegant reductive character that adds an extra layer of complexity. On the palate, the wine is dense and concentrated, with impressive intensity and a chalky, lean minerality that brings out a saline-like freshness. The finish is long, harmonious, and refined.

This Riesling originates from the renowned Deidesheimer Kalkofen vineyard in the Palatinate, known for its calcareous soils. The grapes – handpicked from vines up to 27 years old – were gently pressed, and the must was cold-settled overnight. Fermentation took place 60% in traditional German oak (Stückfass) and 40% in stainless steel, using natural vineyard yeasts. The wine remained on the full lees until bottling in early July, developing further depth and complexity.
