The Chardonnay Riserva DOC Vigna Castel Ringberg 2023 by Elena Walch is an elegant, complex single-vineyard Chardonnay that clearly showcases the potential of this international grape variety in South Tyrol. The grapes come from the renowned Vigna Castel Ringberg vineyard, located between 330 and 400 metres above sea level, with limestone- and loess-rich soils that favour structured, mineral-driven wines. After hand harvesting, the grapes are gently pressed; fermentation takes place in French oak barriques, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine ages for around 10 months in barriques on the fine lees, with regular bâtonnage, and then matures further in bottle. The Riserva designation and extended ageing give the wine depth, finesse and excellent ageing potential.
In the glass, the Chardonnay shows a bright yellow colour with golden reflections. The bouquet is complex and refined, offering aromas of exotic fruit, subtle vanilla and almond notes, and delicate oak spice. On the palate, the wine is juicy and creamy, with a harmonious balance of fruit, minerality, elegant acidity and finely integrated oak. The long, refreshing finish highlights its balance of freshness, power and elegant creaminess.
