The Grande Cuvée “Kermesse” 2023 from Elena Walch shows a deep, intense purplish red. Its multi-layered bouquet combines spicy notes of lightly smoky tobacco, pepper and chocolate with fruity aromas of red berries, forest berries and dried figs. On the palate, the wine is powerful, elegant and harmonious, featuring well-integrated tannins and delicate toasted nuances. Its spicy richness and long finish highlight the wine’s impressive potential.
The cuvée is composed of Syrah, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Lagrein. Syrah contributes peppery spice, Cabernet Sauvignon adds structure and depth, Merlot brings softness and fruit, Petit Verdot enhances tannin and colour, and Lagrein lends distinctive local character.
Winemaking includes a roughly 10-day fermentation on the skins in stainless steel, followed by malolactic conversion in oak. The wine then ages for 18 months in French oak barriques and benefits from extended bottle aging before release.
Elena Walch, based in Tramin, South Tyrol, is renowned for its sustainable approach and is regarded as one of the region’s leading family-run wineries.
