The Pinot Noir della Sala IGT 2023 from Castello della Sala combines the elegance of Pinot Noir with the distinctive climatic conditions of Umbria. The historic Castello della Sala estate near Orvieto, owned by the Antinori family, is one of Central Italy’s most renowned wine estates. The higher-altitude vineyards surrounding the castle provide ideal conditions for Pinot Noir (Pinot Nero), with significant day-to-night temperature variations and limestone-clay soils encouraging slow ripening while preserving freshness and aromatic precision.
Pinot Noir is one of the most demanding red grape varieties and thrives particularly well in the cooler areas of Central Italy, where it develops finesse and balance. Around Castello della Sala, the grape expresses an elegant profile, combining fruit, freshness and structure while maintaining remarkable precision. The winemaking approach is designed to highlight both the varietal character and the sense of place.
In the glass, the wine displays a bright ruby-red colour of medium intensity. The bouquet reveals aromas of red berries, cherries and raspberries, complemented by delicate floral nuances and subtle hints of spice. On the palate, the wine is elegant and well-balanced, with juicy fruit, fine-grained tannins and lively freshness leading to a harmonious and persistent finish.
