Tenuta di Trinoro

Tenuta di Trinoro is widely regarded as one of Tuscany’s most prestigious wineries and a benchmark estate for powerful, character-driven wines made from international grape varieties. Located in a remote area of Val d’Orcia near Sarteano, close to the borders of Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio, the estate combines elevated vineyard sites with an uncompromising commitment to quality. The vineyards lie between 450 and over 600 metres above sea level and benefit from strong temperature variations between day and night, giving the wines freshness, structure and remarkable depth. Limestone, clay, gravel and sandy soils further contribute to the complexity and distinctive character of the wines.

The estate was founded in the early 1990s by Andrea Franchetti, a visionary winemaker who deliberately chose a path different from traditional Tuscan winemaking. Instead of focusing on Sangiovese, Franchetti planted Bordeaux grape varieties including Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot at high vine density. The first vintage was released in 1997 and quickly attracted international recognition. Following Andrea Franchetti’s passing in 2021, the winery is now led by his son Benjamin Franchetti, who continues the estate’s philosophy with consistency and respect for its origins.
The focus at Tenuta di Trinoro lies on age-worthy red wines with intensity, elegance and precision. Cabernet Franc plays a central role in defining the estate’s style, adding depth, spice and finesse. The flagship wine, Tenuta di Trinoro, is crafted from the estate’s finest vineyard parcels and blended according to the character of each vintage. Alongside it, Le Cupole, the estate’s second wine, has become one of the most recognised labels among lovers of premium Tuscan reds. Wines such as Palazzi, a pure Merlot, and Campo di Tenaglia further highlight the individuality of the estate’s vineyard sites and micro-terroirs. Today, Tenuta di Trinoro stands for distinctive Tuscan wines with depth, concentration and ageing potential – wines that express place and vintage rather than follow trends.
