The Chardonnay DOC Fluch & Segen 2024 by Martin Schgraffer highlights the distinctive character of Chardonnay in South Tyrol. The vines grow on limestone-rich slopes around Salorno, where warm days and cool nights provide ideal conditions for slow and balanced ripening. In this alpine region, Chardonnay develops a refined balance of freshness, structure and minerality, resulting in an elegant style that clearly reflects its terroir. The limestone soils and higher elevations contribute precision, depth and remarkable freshness.
In the cellar, Martin Schgraffer follows a handcrafted approach. Part of the grapes remains in contact with the skins, while fermentation takes place spontaneously. The wine matures for several months on the lees in different wooden barrels, gaining further complexity through regular bâtonnage. Bottled unfiltered, it retains its authenticity, texture and expressive character.
In the glass, it shows a bright straw yellow colour. The bouquet reveals ripe yellow fruit, citrus and pear, complemented by subtle hints of flint and delicate toasted nuances. On the palate, the wine is powerful yet precise, supported by vibrant acidity, a creamy texture and pronounced minerality. The finish is long, elegant and marked by remarkable tension.
