The Spätburgunder Malterdinger 2023 from Bernhard Huber presents itself in a bright ruby red, reflecting the limestone- and shell-limestone-rich terroir of Malterdingen. On the nose, it reveals precise aromas of delicate red fruits – particularly cherry and strawberry – accompanied by subtle herbal-spicy notes and a light smokiness, gently underpinned by barrique toasting. On the palate, the wine impresses with a clear structure, supported by elegant, vibrant acidity and fine-grained tannins. The fruit remains restrained, mineral-driven, and well-integrated into the barrique framework without being dominant. Maturation took place in used barriques and barrel passages, with an aging period of 14–16 months, lending the wine depth. This Pinot Noir stands out for its linearity, freshness, and precise yet refined structure.
