The Barolo DOCG Monprivato Riserva Cà d'Morissio 2017 from Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio is regarded as one of the most extraordinary and sought-after wines of Piedmont. This Riserva is produced only in selected vintages and exclusively from the oldest Nebbiolo vines of the legendary Monprivato single vineyard in Castiglione Falletto. The name “Cà d'Morissio” pays tribute to Maurizio Mascarello, whose passion and vision have left a lasting mark on the estate.
Traditional winemaking with extended skin maceration, followed by several years of ageing in large Slavonian oak casks, gives the wine remarkable depth, elegance and exceptional ageing potential. The warm and dry 2017 vintage resulted in lower yields but produced highly concentrated grapes with ripe fruit, refined structure and outstanding expression. The result is a Barolo that is already captivating today while promising decades of further development.
In the glass, it displays an intense garnet colour with ruby reflections. The bouquet reveals exceptional complexity, offering aromas of ripe cherries, rose petals, violets and red berries, complemented by delicate notes of spice, liquorice and tobacco. On the palate, it is powerful yet remarkably elegant, supported by silky tannins, vibrant freshness and impressive minerality. Its long, layered finish confirms this Barolo as one of the great classics of its appellation.
