Alois Lageder
The Lageder family acquired the Löwengang winery in Margreid in 1938, and the winery is now run by the sixth generation: Alois Lageder's three children (Alois Clemens, Helena and Anna) are responsible for the entire production and distribution.
The winery comprises around 50 hectares of its own vineyards, which are cultivated according to biodynamic principles and certified according to Demeter guidelines, as well as a further 85 hectares, which are cultivated by partner winemakers.
Alois Lageder was the first in the family to be interested in biodynamics, a concept that is now being applied to all production, both “in the open air” and in the cellar. Biodynamic agriculture is carried out in the vineyards and gardens to create a closed, natural cycle in which flora and fauna live in complete harmony. The use of chemical preparations was completely discontinued and replaced by self-made, natural alternatives.
Minimal intervention is also carried out in the cellar, although there is great curiosity and the constant urge to experiment in order to create wines with strong character. The trend is to further deepen and develop the identity of each individual wine. The wines produced are divided into five lines: Classic Grape Varieties, Compositions, Cru, le Comete and Rarum.
In addition to its commitment to biodynamic agriculture, the winery also uses sustainable construction methods and renewable energy sources. The winery building on the Löwengang estate in Margreid, inaugurated in 1995, is an example of modern winery architecture that combines ecological construction methods with low energy consumption.
The attention to “individual sustainable details” is the hallmark of the Lageder family!
