The Ottanta Lagrein IGT 2020 from
Egger-Ramer Estate is a special interpretation of the indigenous Lagrein grape, created to
celebrate the 80th birthday of Toni Egger-Ramer. The wine comes from selected
vineyards in Bolzano-Gries, one of the most classic areas for Lagrein, where sandy alluvial soils provide ideal conditions for structured and powerful red wines.
Lagrein is one of South Tyrol’s most important indigenous grape varieties and has its historical home around Bolzano. In Gries in particular, it produces deeply coloured, concentrated wines with strong character. For Ottanta,
grapes from old vines are used and partially dried after harvest, adding further concentration and depth to the wine.
Vinification includes temperature-controlled fermentation followed by ageing first in clay amphorae and then in new barriques. This combination gives the wine both structure and elegance, highlighting its distinctive personality.
In the glass, it shows a deep, dark red colour with violet reflections. The nose reveals intense aromas of dark berries, accompanied by floral and spicy notes, along with hints of cocoa and dark chocolate. On the palate, it is powerful and full-bodied, yet soft and velvety, with a dense structure and a long, elegant, fruit-driven finish.
