The Baccara Merlot Cabernet Franc Riserva DOC 2022 from Eichenstein Estate is an elegant South Tyrolean red wine cuvée made from Merlot and Cabernet Franc. It is one of the estate’s distinctive red wines produced above Merano, combining international grape varieties with the Alpine terroir of the Burggrafenamt area. The vines grow in the sunny Wartegg vineyard in Marling, a south-east facing site that benefits from early morning sunlight. The soils consist mainly of mineral slate with a slight clay component, while cool nighttime temperatures help preserve freshness and balance in the grapes.

The blend combines the strengths of both grape varieties. Merlot contributes roundness, ripe fruit and a smooth texture, while Cabernet Franc adds structure, elegance and subtle spicy notes. After harvest, the grapes undergo around 20 days of maceration on the skins. The wine is then aged for about 12 months in barrique barrels, followed by additional maturation in stainless steel. After more than two years of total ageing, it is released as a Riserva.

In the glass, Baccara Riserva 2022 shows a deep ruby red colour. The bouquet reveals aromas of ripe red berries and dark fruits, complemented by subtle spicy nuances. On the palate the wine is harmonious, elegant and well structured, supported by fine tannins and a balanced interplay of fruit and spice. The finish is long and persistent, highlighting the refined style and character of this South Tyrolean cuvée.
