The Fontalloro IGT 2021 by Fèlsina is one of the estate’s most iconic wines and represents the winery’s purest expression of Sangiovese. The grapes come from vineyards located on the border between Chianti Classico and Chianti Colli Senesi. This unique position between two historic Tuscan areas gives the wine its remarkable character: the higher parcels in Chianti Classico are defined by stony, limestone-rich soils, while the lower sites towards the Crete Senesi feature sand, clay, silt, pebbles, and marine sediments. This diversity gives the wine depth, structure, and a strong sense of place. Sangiovese is the key grape variety for Fèlsina, and Fontalloro is produced as a single-varietal expression, combining the tension and elegance of southern Chianti Classico with the broader and warmer character of the Senese area. The grapes are hand-harvested in two passes to ensure only the finest fruit is selected. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel with 16–20 days of skin contact, followed by 18–22 months in French oak barriques and an additional 8–12 months of bottle ageing. In the glass, it shows a deep, intense ruby-red colour. The bouquet reveals notes of aromatic herbs, tobacco, moist and dry earth, blackcurrant, and liquorice. On the palate, the wine is structured, powerful, and precise, with silky yet firm tannins, excellent balance, and a long, elegant finish.
