The Lagrein DOC “Roblinus de Waldgries” 2022 from Waldgries Estate is one of the winery’s most distinctive red wines and is produced only in particularly outstanding vintages. The wine is named after Roblinus de’ Waldgries, the first documented owner of the estate in 1242, and represents a tribute to the long winegrowing tradition of the estate in St. Magdalena near Bolzano.

The grapes come from old Lagrein vines with very low yields, resulting in particularly concentrated and expressive fruit. Lagrein is an indigenous grape variety of South Tyrol known for its deep colour, powerful structure and excellent ageing potential. For Roblinus, vinification includes a long skin maceration of up to five weeks, partly using whole clusters. The wine then matures in barrique barrels and is released only after around three years of ageing, allowing it to develop depth and complexity.

In the glass, Lagrein Roblinus 2022 shows a deep ruby red colour with violet reflections. The bouquet reveals complex aromas of dark forest berries, cherries and subtle spicy notes. On the palate the wine is powerful and structured, supported by ripe, well-integrated tannins. The finish is long and harmonious, marked by intense fruit and elegant spice.
