The Blauburgunder DOC Ludwig 2023 comes from Elena Walch, one of Alto Adige’s most renowned wineries, long celebrated for precise, terroir-driven wines with a clearly defined style. With the “Ludwig” line, the estate delivers a Pinot Noir shaped around elegance, transparency and balance, placing its cool, Alpine origin at the centre. Named after Ludwig Walch, this wine represents one of the winery’s finest interpretations of Blauburgunder, where fruit, structure and finesse come together seamlessly. The 2023 vintage in Alto Adige brings bright, juicy fruit and very clear aromatics, giving the “Ludwig” an energetic and focused profile. At the same time, the structure remains firm and linear, making the wine not only charming and approachable, but also genuinely deep. In vintages like this, Pinot Noir benefits from the combination of ripeness and freshness, as the aromatics stay open and the tannins are finely shaped.
Made from 100% Blauburgunder (Pinot Noir), the “Ludwig” 2023 shows a distinctly varietal signature: less weight, more tension, a refined texture and a subtle mineral drive. In the glass, it displays a bright ruby colour with a transparent core. The nose is led by red cherry, raspberry and wild berries, supported by floral hints and a delicate spice note reminiscent of fine herbs and a touch of forest floor. On the palate, the wine is juicy, precise and elegant, with finely woven tannins, lively acidity and a clean fruit profile that never feels overripe. The finish is medium-long to long, fresh and very pure, with a gently spicy echo and a cool, linear aromatic line that clearly reflects Alto Adige’s style.
