The Hermitage Monier de la Sizeranne 2020 by M. Chapoutier is a great red wine from the northern Rhône Valley and stands as one of the classic benchmarks of the Hermitage appellation. In this cuvée, Chapoutier combines several prestigious parcels of the Hermitage hill, including Les Bessards, Le Méal, and Les Greffieux, resulting in a wine of remarkable depth and precision. The steep granite and alluvial soils provide structure, mineral tension, and excellent ageing potential. The 2020 vintage is particularly concentrated yet elegant.
The wine is made from 100% Syrah, the defining grape variety of the northern Rhône. In Hermitage, Syrah develops an exceptional combination of dark fruit, spice, and mineral depth. On the granite slopes, it gains dense structure, fine tannins, and the region’s signature elegant peppery aromatics.
In the glass, it displays a deep garnet red colour. The nose reveals blackcurrant, raspberry, liquorice, and delicate pepper notes. On the palate, the wine is round, powerful, and at the same time elegant, with silky tannins, concentrated dark fruit, and a long spicy-mineral finish.
