The Pinot Noir DOC Selection Sepp Hanni 2021 from Stroblhof Estate is a special selection from South Tyrol dedicated to Sepp Hanni, a historic hotelier who played an important role in the development of Pinot Noir in the Überetsch area and at Stroblhof. The grapes come from vineyards located above the estate near Appiano at around 500 metres above sea level. Southeast-facing slopes and soils composed of red clay, porphyry and limestone provide excellent conditions for Burgundy varieties. Only grapes from older vines are used for this selection, and the wine is produced only in particularly good vintages.
The wine is made from Pinot Noir, one of the most refined red grape varieties, known for its elegance and fine structure. At Stroblhof several Pinot Noir clones are cultivated using the Guyot training system, ensuring balanced ripening of the grapes.
After harvest the wine undergoes fermentation and maceration on the skins for about 23 days in wooden vats. It then matures for around 12 months in French oak barriques, partly new and partly second use. This is followed by additional ageing in stainless steel and further bottle ageing.
In the glass the wine shows a deep ruby colour with slight garnet reflections. The nose reveals aromas of ripe cherries and cranberries, accompanied by subtle notes of fine oak and cocoa. On the palate it is silky and elegant, with well-integrated tannins and a long, harmonious finish.
