The Merlot IGT Patrimo 2018 from
Feudi di San Gregorio is one of the
great icons of Southern Italy and undoubtedly one of the country’s most important Merlot wines. This extraordinary wine originated from the discovery of a
historic Merlot vineyard in the heart of Irpinia – a "fortunate finding" that evolved into one of the estate’s most prestigious labels. Feudi itself describes it as an exceptional and unique Merlot, deeply shaped by the distinctive terroir of Campania.
The 2018 vintage is particularly impressive: Irpinia’s climatic conditions, with cool nights and marked day-night temperature shifts, promote concentration, freshness, and aromatic precision. The wine is
aged for at least 18 months in barriques followed by 48 months in bottle, giving it immense depth, elegance, and outstanding ageing potential.
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby-red colour, almost impenetrable. The nose reveals intense aromas of dark forest berry preserve, cassis, sweet spices, delicate tobacco, and noble oak notes. On the palate, it is dense, opulent, and at the same time precisely structured, with velvety tannins, remarkable depth, and a long, majestic finish.
