The Kerner Riserva DOC Sabiona 2021 from Eisacktaler Winery is one of Alto Adige’s most remarkable white wines, beautifully demonstrating the potential of this grape variety in the alpine climate of the Eisack Valley. The grapes come from high-altitude vineyards surrounding the historic Sabiona Monastery above Chiusa, one of Alto Adige’s most striking wine-growing landscapes. Cool nights, intense sunlight and steep slopes create ideal conditions for precise and long-lived white wines. Kerner thrives particularly well at higher elevations, developing in the Eisack Valley a unique balance of freshness, aromatic intensity and mineral tension.
A Kerner produced as a Riserva is relatively rare and highlights the exceptional character of this wine. Extended ageing gives the wine additional depth, structure and complexity while preserving the grape variety’s characteristic freshness. As a Riserva, Sabiona showcases the ageing potential of Kerner and its ability to reflect both terroir and altitude with remarkable precision. The Sabiona line of Eisack Valley Winery stands for wines from selected vineyard sites, known for quality, strong personality and ageing potential.
In the glass, the wine displays a bright straw-yellow colour. The bouquet reveals intense aromas of white peach, apricot and citrus fruits, accompanied by delicate herbal notes and mineral nuances. On the palate, the Kerner is precise and layered, with lively freshness, refined structure and a long, mineral-driven finish.
