The Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG Grotte Alte 2021 from Arianna Occhipinti is one of Sicily’s most distinctive red wines, beautifully expressing the depth and elegance of the island’s only DOCG appellation. The vineyards are located in the hills around Vittoria in southeastern Sicily, where sandy and limestone-rich soils, together with significant temperature differences between day and night, create ideal conditions for precise and age-worthy wines. The wine is made from Frappato and Nero d’Avola, two grape varieties that have been closely linked to this region for centuries. Frappato contributes freshness, floral nuances and delicate spice, while Nero d’Avola adds structure, depth and dark fruit character. Around Vittoria, this combination achieves an exceptional balance between elegance and Mediterranean expression.
With Grotte Alte, Arianna Occhipinti presents a particularly terroir-driven interpretation of Cerasuolo di Vittoria. Extended ageing provides added complexity, tension and ageing potential while preserving the vitality of the grape varieties.
In the glass, the wine displays a bright ruby-red colour. The bouquet reveals aromas of red berries, sour cherry and Mediterranean herbs, accompanied by delicate floral nuances and subtle spice. On the palate, the wine is precise and profound, with silky tannins, vibrant freshness and a long, elegant finish.
