The Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva DOC 1960 – 2020 by Cantina Frentana beautifully expresses the depth and character of the coastal hills of Abruzzo. The grapes come from the finest south- and south-east-facing vineyards around Rocca San Giovanni along the Costa dei Trabocchi, where clay-limestone soils provide ideal conditions for structured red wines. Montepulciano is one of Abruzzo’s signature grape varieties, developing intense fruit, well-defined tannins, and impressive body in this area. The late hand harvest adds further concentration and aromatic ripeness.

As a Riserva, this wine benefits from a longer ageing period, giving it greater depth and complexity. After 20–25 days of skin maceration, it matures for around 12 months in French oak tonneaux, followed by further ageing in cement tanks and several months in bottle. This extended maturation adds structure, harmony, and excellent ageing potential. In the glass, it shows an intense ruby-red colour with violet reflections. The bouquet reveals forest berries, delicate spice notes, and hints of chocolate. On the palate, it is smooth, full-bodied, and persistent, with well-integrated tannins and a harmonious, powerful finish.
