The Merlot Riserva DOC Staffes 2023 from Kornell Estate comes from vineyards in Siebeneich near Terlan at around 270 meters above sea level. The vines grow on porphyry soils, which give the wine structure and mineral depth. After harvest, fermentation lasts around 25 days in wooden vats. The wine then matures for about two years in total, including 12 months in barrique and a further 12 months in bottle. This extended aging adds complexity, depth and aging potential. The Riserva designation indicates longer aging and stricter grape selection, resulting in greater concentration and structure. In Alto Adige, Merlot shows its full potential in warmer areas such as around Terlan, developing an elegant yet structured style with soft tannins and clear fruit expression. In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby red color. The nose reveals aromas of ripe plum and raspberry, accompanied by spicy notes of chocolate, tobacco and eucalyptus. On the palate, it is full-bodied and harmonious, with velvety tannins and balanced freshness. The finish is long, elegant and marked by refined spice.

The Kornell 2021 Alto Adige Sauvignon Blanc Oberberg shows floral and tropical tones with pungent tomato leaf on first nose. The fruit aromas are on the ripe side, generally, with papaya, persimmon and kumquat, all followed by a light hint of pastry cream. Aged in steel tanks for 18 months, the wine packs medium freshness, and there is enough acidity for immediate drinking. Production is 6,000 bottles.
