The Lamaione IGT Toscana 2022 from
Marchesi Frescobaldi is an iconic Tuscan Merlot and one of the most important single-vineyard wines of the CastelGiocondo estate in
Montalcino. Produced exclusively from
Merlot, the wine comes from the
Lamaione vineyard, a site defined by heavy, clay-rich soils that are particularly well suited to this grape variety. The Mediterranean climate, with warm days and cool nights, ensures even ripening and gives the wine depth, concentration and elegance. Following careful hand harvesting, vinification includes extended maceration to enhance structure and aromatic complexity. Ageing in barriques over an extended period shapes the distinctive style of Lamaione while preserving freshness and precision. The 2022 vintage clearly expresses the successful integration of an international grape variety with Tuscan terroir.
In the glass, Lamaione 2022 displays a dense, deep ruby-red colour with dark highlights. On the nose, it reveals an intense and layered aromatic profile, featuring ripe dark berries, sour cherry and plum, complemented by balsamic notes, fine spice and subtle hints of cocoa and tobacco. On the palate, the wine is powerful yet supple, with ripe, velvety tannins, well-integrated acidity and impressive depth. The finish is long, compact and harmonious, highlighting the character of this outstanding Tuscan Merlot.
