The Barolo DOCG Tortoniano 2021 from Michele Chiarlo is a classic expression of the Langhe, showcasing the elegance and finesse of Nebbiolo grown on Tortonian soils. The grapes are sourced from vineyards around La Morra and Barolo, characterized by calcareous marl of marine origin, which promotes a particularly refined and aromatic style. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel with around 15–18 days of skin contact, followed by extended ageing of at least three years, including 18–24 months in large oak casks and additional bottle ageing. Nebbiolo in this area expresses a particularly elegant and perfumed style. The Tortonian soils, typical of La Morra, result in softer tannins and enhanced aromatic complexity compared to more structured Barolo zones.
In the glass, it shows a bright garnet red color. On the nose, it reveals complex aromas of rose petals, red fruits and delicate spice. On the palate, it is structured yet harmonious, with silky tannins, excellent balance and a long, persistent finish with a fresh mineral note.
