The Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge “Champs de Morgeot” 2024 from Lamy-Pillot is a terroir-driven red wine from the Côte de Beaune, reflecting the historical importance of this area for Pinot Noir wines. The “Champs de Morgeot” parcel lies below the well-known Premier Cru sites of Morgeot and is characterized by deep clay-limestone soils, ideal for producing wines that are both structured and accessible. Vinification follows a traditional Burgundian approach with hand harvesting, careful selection and extended maceration. Partial use of whole clusters adds structure and aromatic complexity. The wine is aged for around 12 months in French oak barrels, with a moderate proportion of new oak to maintain balance between fruit and structure. Pinot Noir in this area expresses a slightly more structured style compared to other parts of Burgundy, while retaining elegance and finesse. Wines from the Morgeot sector are often full yet approachable, with clear fruit definition. In the glass, it shows an intense ruby red color. On the nose, it reveals aromas of dark cherry, plum and red berries, with subtle spicy and earthy notes. On the palate, it is juicy and structured, with fine tannins, good depth and a harmonious, persistent finish.
