The Cabernet DOC Cor Römigberg 2021 from Alois Lageder is one of Alto Adige’s most distinctive red wines, beautifully combining depth, elegance and a strong sense of place. As an organic wine, it originates from the historic Römigberg vineyard near Lake Caldaro, one of Alto Adige’s oldest single vineyards, with roots dating back to Roman times. The name “Cor” refers to the heart of this remarkable vineyard and represents a wine that expresses its origin with exceptional precision. The south-facing vineyards, with limestone-rich gravel soils, provide ideal conditions for Cabernet, giving the wine structure, freshness and impressive ageing potential.
The wine is produced mainly from Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by a smaller proportion of Cabernet Franc. In the warm vineyards surrounding Lake Caldaro, these grape varieties develop a refined balance of ripe fruit, elegance and spice. Cabernet Sauvignon contributes structure, depth and dark fruit character, while Cabernet Franc adds freshness, herbal complexity and aromatic precision. Alois Lageder’s biodynamic philosophy further enhances the authentic expression of the vineyard.
In the glass, the wine displays a deep ruby-red colour. The bouquet reveals aromas of blackcurrant, dark berries and ripe cherry, accompanied by subtle herbal notes, tobacco and delicate toasted nuances. On the palate, the Cabernet is powerful yet elegant, with precise structure, fine tannins and a long, layered finish.
