The Barolo DOCG Bussia Riserva Vigna Colonnello 2019 from Prunotto (Antinori) is one of Piedmont’s great wines, originating from the renowned single vineyard “Vigna Colonnello” in the Bussia area of Monforte d’Alba. The vineyards are planted on calcareous-clay soils, ideal for Nebbiolo, which here produces wines of remarkable complexity and longevity. The grapes are carefully hand-harvested and selected to ensure the highest quality. After fermentation, the wine undergoes extended skin contact to fully extract structure and aromatic depth. It is then aged for a long period in oak barrels followed by further refinement in bottle. The term “Riserva” denotes a longer aging period and stricter quality standards, resulting in greater depth, elegance and aging potential. Nebbiolo is the defining grape of Barolo, known for its firm tannins, vibrant acidity and exceptional complexity. In the glass, the wine shows an intense garnet red color. The nose reveals complex aromas of ripe cherry, rose petals and fine spices, complemented by elegant oak notes. On the palate, it is powerful and structured, with ripe tannins, lively acidity and a long, complex finish.
