The Pinot Noir Riserva DOC Renaissance 2021 from Gumphof by Markus Prackwieser is one of the flagship wines of this Eisack Valley estate and showcases how elegant, deep and refined Pinot Noir can become in an Alpine terroir. The grapes come from steep vineyards in the southern Eisack Valley at the foot of the Schlern massif, located between 500 and 550 metres above sea level, where calcareous moraine soils and quartz porphyry, combined with strong day-to-night temperature variations, create ideal conditions for precise and expressive red wines.
The Renaissance line represents Gumphof’s top selection, crafted only from particularly suitable vineyard sites and selected vintages. The Riserva designation reflects an extended ageing period, giving the wine additional complexity, structure and ageing potential. The wine matures for many months in barrique barrels before further ageing in large oak casks, resulting in remarkable balance and finesse.
In the glass, the Renaissance 2021 shows a bright ruby red colour. The nose reveals wild raspberries, cherries and delicate floral notes, accompanied by subtle spice, gentle toasted nuances and hints of herbs. On the palate, the wine is elegant and layered, with precise fruit, refined tannins and lively freshness. The long, harmonious finish highlights the Alpine character of this refined Pinot Noir.
