Erbhof Unterganzner Cabernet Riserva DOC 2024 combines different expressions of Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc. The vines grow on alluvial soils of porphyry origin and are trained using both pergola and wire-frame systems. The average vine age is around 20 years, with a planting density of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 vines per hectare. In July, around 60% of the crop is thinned out in order to concentrate quality in the remaining grapes.
Harvest takes place in several stages from mid-October to early November. After destemming, the grapes ferment in stainless-steel tanks at controlled temperatures. Skin contact lasts for around ten days. This is followed by malolactic fermentation and maturation in French oak barriques, most of them in their second use, for a total period of 18 to 20 months. The wine is filtered before bottling.
In the glass, it shows a garnet-red colour. The bouquet combines ripe fruit and red berries with notes of cassis, hay and goudron. On the palate, it is complex and full-bodied, with firm tannins, pronounced structure and a powerful, concentrated style, complemented by a distinctive and characterful expression.
