Pitzner Estate is located in Cardano, within the municipality of Cornedo all’Isarco, just a few kilometres north of Bolzano. The winery combines centuries of history with a modern and quality-focused approach to winemaking. The historic Pitzner farm dates back around 700 years and originally served as an armoury and workshop for nearby Karneid Castle. The name “Pitzner” is derived from the old German word “Büchsner,” meaning gunsmith. Today, this historic site is dedicated to producing distinctive South Tyrolean wines that reflect their origin and heritage.
The family-run estate is managed by brothers Markus and Thomas Puff, who oversee both vineyard and cellar operations. Their vineyards are spread across several sites around Cardano, where porphyry-rich soils, well-ventilated slopes and favourable climatic conditions create an ideal environment for vine growing. Respect for nature and careful vineyard management are central elements of their philosophy.
The estate’s most important grape varieties include Pinot Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Schiava and Lagrein. These traditional South Tyrolean varieties showcase the region’s diversity and produce wines known for their freshness, elegance and strong sense of place. By maintaining a deliberately limited production, the winery is able to focus on quality and craftsmanship, creating authentic wines that successfully unite tradition, terroir and contemporary winemaking.
