The Cabernet Sauvignon Riserva DOC Gratus 2022 from Ritterhof is an elegant yet powerful red wine from the warm areas of South Tyrol. The grapes grow in sun-drenched vineyards in the lowlands of the Unterland and around Montan, at altitudes between 220 and 400 meters. The vines, over 35 years old, are rooted in sandy, clay and porphyry soils, producing concentrated and characterful fruit. Harvesting takes place by hand from mid to late October. After gentle processing, fermentation occurs at controlled temperatures with extended skin contact to extract color, aromas and tannins. The wine is then aged in small French oak barriques and further refined in the bottle. The term “Riserva” refers to this extended aging, which adds depth, structure and aging potential. The name “Gratus”, meaning “the graceful one”, reflects the wine’s style: powerful yet refined and balanced. In the glass, it shows an intense garnet red color. On the nose, classic aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and green pepper emerge. On the palate, it is juicy, full and smooth, with pronounced tannins, great density and remarkable complexity.
