The Kalterersee Klassisch Superiore DOC “Novis” 2024 from Ritterhof comes from the traditional vineyards surrounding Lake Caldaro in South Tyrol. The vineyards are located on warm sandy gravel and moraine soils at elevations between approximately 300 and 450 metres above sea level. These well-ventilated sites around Caldaro provide excellent conditions for vine growing and help preserve the characteristic freshness and lightness typical of wines from this area. The wine is made from Vernatsch, a traditional indigenous grape variety that has been cultivated around Lake Caldaro for centuries. The grapes are carefully harvested by hand, usually between the end of September and mid-October. After gentle vinification, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine matures in large wooden casks. This process preserves the fruity character of the grape while giving the wine a harmonious structure. In the glass, Kalterersee “Novis” shows a bright ruby red colour with violet reflections. The nose reveals aromas of ripe cherry, violet and delicate hints of almond. On the palate the wine is fresh and elegant, with juicy fruit, lively structure and a harmonious, pleasantly persistent finish.
