The Barolo Riserva DOCG Monfortino 2020 from Giacomo Conterno is one of Piedmont’s great wine icons. Made exclusively from Nebbiolo, it is produced only in vintages when the grapes meet the exceptionally high standards required for Monfortino. For the 2020 vintage, the majority of the fruit comes from the renowned Francia vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba, complemented by a proportion from the Arione vineyard.
Monfortino embodies a deeply traditional interpretation of Barolo. Extended ageing in large wooden casks gives Nebbiolo the time required to develop remarkable depth, precision and complexity. The 2020 combines impressive concentration with elegance, vibrant freshness and outstanding ageing potential, making it a Barolo for truly special occasions and a highly desirable collector’s wine.
In the glass, it displays the classic garnet-red colour. The complex bouquet combines red fruit and blood orange with rose, lavender, sage and mineral nuances. The palate is concentrated yet refined, with vibrant acidity, silky tannins and a long, precise and savoury-mineral finish.
