The Barbera d’Asti DOCG Bricco della Bigotta 2020 by Braida is an intense red wine from Piedmont and one of the winery’s most distinctive Barbera selections. Braida, based in Rocchetta Tanaro, is closely linked to the modern history of Barbera and represents wines that have given this grape variety depth, structure and international recognition. Bricco della Bigotta is made from Barbera and stands out for an expressive style focused on ripeness, concentration and long persistence. Vinification includes around 20 days of maceration; the wine then matures for 15 months in barrique and for approximately another year in bottle. The 2020 vintage received 91 points from Wine Enthusiast, James Suckling and Wine Spectator. In the glass, it shows a ruby-red colour with violet reflections. The aroma is rich, intense and persistent, with notes of liquorice, violet, plum and vanilla. On the palate, it is powerful, balanced and layered, with ripe fruit, spicy nuances, delicate toasted aromas and a long, intense finish.

The 2019 Barbera d'Asti Bricco della Bigotta shows a velvety dark appearance with blackberry, tar and camphor ash. This is a full-bodied and thickly textured expression of Barbera with points of bright acidity that give the wine extra lift and focus. Like some of the other new releases from Braida, the high alcohol (measured here at 16%) is overboard.

Dark, intense ruby red. Ripe nose of red fruits, cherry, plum, followed by spicy notes of licorice and vanilla, with a touch of wood. The palate is rich, round and reminiscent of ripe fruit and undergrowth, with a very long finish.
