The Barbera d’Asti DOCG Ai Suma 2021 by Braida is a great red wine from Piedmont and one of the winery’s most expressive interpretations of Barbera. Braida is closely linked to the history of high-quality Barbera wines and, through its single-vineyard wines and selections, has played an important role in giving this grape variety international prestige. Ai Suma is made from 100% Barbera and stands for concentration, depth and a particularly ripe style. The name means “we made it” in Piedmontese dialect and reflects the ambition behind this wine. The 2021 vintage also received international attention, including recognition from Wine Enthusiast and Veronelli. In the glass, it shows a very deep ruby-red colour with garnet reflections. On the nose, it is rich, complex and layered, with intense fruit accompanied by vanilla, liquorice and cocoa. On the palate, it is full-bodied, powerful and structured, yet also elegant, harmonious and enveloping. The long, persistent finish highlights its density and maturity.

The Braida 2020 Barbera d'Asti Ai Suma shows a very ripe bouquet featuring air-dried fruit, raisin and prune. There is a lot of muscle and power in this wine delivered in terms of texture, concentration and alcohol that in this vintage measures a whopping 16%. Think of this as the Amarone of Asti. The finish is creamy soft and slightly sweet.

Deep ruby with delicate purple reflections. In the nose, initially heavily toasted, cold smoke, sealing wax, then opens on cranberries. Very juicy on the palate, with clear fruit, stretches finely across the tongue, plus grippy young tannin, will ripen excellently!
