The Skythos Red 2019 from Ansitz Dolomytos Sacker comes from Unterinn on the Renon plateau in South Tyrol. The vines grow at around 500 metres above sea level on a steep, south-facing slope with weathered porphyry soils. The cuvée is made up of half Pinot Noir, complemented by several other varieties such as Sangiovese, Petit Verdot, Agiorgitiko, Mourvèdre and Alicante Bouschet. Fermentation takes place spontaneously in wooden barrels, followed by 10 to 14 days of maceration. The wine then matures for three years in barriques or 150-litre cigarillios, before spending a further one to two years ageing in bottle in the Dolomytos tunnel. It is bottled gently and without filtration. Production is small, at around 2,000 to 2,500 bottles per year, and the wine has an ageing potential of at least 15 years.
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby-red colour. The nose is marked by dark berries and spice, with hints of plum. On the palate, it is powerful, structured and harmonious, supported by velvety tannins and a long, dense finish.
