The Barbera d’Alba Vigna Francia 2024 from Giacomo Conterno comes from one of the most prestigious vineyard sites in Serralunga d’Alba. Vigna Francia is historically renowned for the estate’s great Barolo wines, yet it also demonstrates the remarkable depth, precision, and sense of place that Barbera can achieve here. The vineyard lies within the Francia MGA, on calcareous clay soils at around 400 meters above sea level.
The wine is made from 100% Barbera. In the Alba area, this grape variety is known for producing wines with vibrant natural acidity, intense fruit, and notable tension. In Serralunga d’Alba in particular, Barbera tends to show a more structured, serious, and age-worthy profile compared to simpler expressions. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by approximately 20 months of aging in large oak casks.
In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red color. The nose reveals aromas of dark berries, sour cherry, ripe red fruits, violet, and subtle spice notes. On the palate, it is powerful yet precise, driven by lively acidity, fine tannins, and a long, mineral-driven, and juicy finish.
